B8 Audi A4 Cracked Bushings and Shimmying

The German car manufacturer Audi is well known for its sophisticated A4 class of luxury sedans, which blend comfort and style with fuel economy and safety. The Audi A4 B8 generation is the most recent model in the series, starting in 2008, and featuring increased cabin space and technological upgrades over its predecessors.

Many of the upgrades on the Audi A4 B8 series are improvements designed to increase ease of handling and performance, including greater chassis length and the introduction of ‘servotronic’ speed sensitive power steering on some models. Though Audi has worked to improve the ride and feel of the Audi A4 B8 model, frequently many Audi A4 drivers report that their car shimmys or creaks as they drive down the road.

The Audi A4 has a front link suspension that consists of two upper and two lower arms at the ends of the front axle. The bushings on the control arms may become cracked, which may produce a creaking sound and may also affect the ride of the vehicle. Any noticeable difference in the way your vehicle drives or handles should be checked out at your local Audi import mechanic as soon as possible.

Audi has a current Technical Service Bulletin out for the lower control arms, as they are known to have issues straight from the factory. Any vibration or shimmy in the front end may be a symptom of this issue. A visit to your nearby German auto service specialist for an inspection is the best way to diagnose this or any other issue you may experience with your Audi A4 B8.

Search for a local, independent Audi repair shop with Audi mechanics that have dealer-level expertise at a fraction of the expense.
